ABB’s Measurement & Analytics business expands its CoriolisMaster Coriolis mass flow meter series with the FCB400. A new standard electronics platform offers users up to five configurable communication outputs via optional plug-in modules. The entirely digital internal communication system provides maximum accuracy for compact and remote devices without requiring special or proprietary cabling, according to the company.

Using "SensorApplicationMemory" technology, the FCB400 flow meter saves all calibration data as well as all user-configuration data and totalizers, which are linked to the sensor in a non-detachable way. The automatic function synchronizes configuration data in the sensor and the transmitter after power has been switched on. It duplicates configuration data, storing it in a permanent memory. This reportedly ensures safe data synchronization during maintenance.

Application-specific software packages expand the FCB400 flow meter’s uses. In filling processes, a "FillMass" function directly controls the downstream valve via a special digital output. "DensiMass" uses predefined characteristics of liquids such as alcohols and sugar or starch solutions, enabling the precise determination of mixture concentrations via high-precision density measurement. The packages can also determine the net mass or volume flow rate.

Using the “VeriMass” on-board verification feature, the FCB400 performs continuous self-diagnostics that test whether the flow meter is still operating within the specified range. VeriMass detects and alerts the user to possible erosions or coating inside the sensor without removing the device or interrupting the measurement. This ensures permanent monitoring of the health of the meter—it detects reduced measuring accuracy, optimizes test cycles and prevents critical conditions at an early stage. The design expands usability at ambient temperatures of -40°F to +158°F (-40°C to +70°C) and desensitizes the device to excessive vibrations.
